Northside Community Coalition Launches
North Sydney, October 5, 2021 – The Northside Community Coalition hosted an outdoor family event to celebrate Northside communities and build support for the new site of the North Sydney Food Bank.
The Northside Community Coalition invited residents to an evening filled with live music, family fun, stories, warm soup and Northside love on October 8th. Hosted on the new grounds of the North Sydney Food Bank, the event gathered Thanksgiving donations of non-perishable food while also introducing the Northside Community Coalition, a group of community members connecting compassion and action by “getting behind” the good work and good stories of the Northside.
“As a community member living in Sydney Mines raising a family, it gives me hope to see the Northside Community Coalition come to life,” says Holly MacDonald, Coalition Member. “It gives me a pathway into community work and engagement, connection, discussion and support. Being a part of the Coalition allows me to honor my values through the work that we do and opens my eyes to all the positivity surrounding me in the community. The Coalition highlights how resilient and creative my neighbours are and that restores my faith in community, as we all most certainly need it.”
The Northside Community Coalition is supported by Northside Rising, a community-mobilization initiative working to create supports, connections, and pathways for Northsiders to be changemakers for a more hopeful, healthy, and just community. “Northside Rising believes in the power of hope as a driver for positive change,” said Jody Nelson, Project Lead. “Through the Coalition we aim to provide a community-led space for people to get connected and get involved.”
